PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable car height adjustment even when a car is making a stop, in a self-leveling hydraulic shock absorber. SOLUTION: A piston 6 is fitted in a cylinder 2, and a pump rod 19 fixed to the cylinder 3 is fitted in a pump tube 14 fixed to a piston rod 7 to form a pump chamber 20. The pump chamber 20 is expanded and contracted by expansion and contraction of the piston rod 7 to supply oil from an oil tank 5 to an accumulator 31 to accumulate it. When the car height is lowered, an arm 41 connected to a suspension device is interlocked with it to turn, and to open a leveling valve 33, and the oil is supplied from the accumulator 31 to the cylinder 3 to raise the car height. When the car height is raised, an orifice port 26 of the pump rod 19 is opened to return the oil of the cylinder 3 to an oil tank 5 to lower the car height, and to keep the car height constant. When high-pressure oil is accumulated in the accumulator 31, the car height can be automatically adjusted even when the car is stopped, without using switches etc.
