PURPOSE: A method of switching a version is to play a video CD(compact disc) according to version 1.0 or version 2.0 depending on a user's selection, when the version of the video CD to be played is 2.0. CONSTITUTION: A method of switching a version in a video CD comprises the steps of: discriminating the version of the video CD from the version information written in a TOC(table of contents) area where information identifying the version of the video CD is recorded; determining whether or not a key releasing a PBC(playback control) function in a video CD system has been activated, when the version of the video CD is 2.0; if not, playing the video CD conforming to the PBC function; and if so, releasing the PBC function of the video CD.
