PURPOSE: A digital subscriber line and a method for transmitting data are provided to offer a digital subscriber line and a data transmission method applicable without replacing hardware, regardless of a change of networks and service application technique, by distributing bandwidths suitably according to the service types of channels. CONSTITUTION: An ADSL line card is provided with an ATM interface unit(20), a LAN interface unit(30), a modem interface unit(40), a channel framer MUX(50), and a processor(60). The ATM interface unit(20), interfacing the channel framer MUX(50) and an ATM network, is comprised of a cell controller(21) and a cell processing part(22). The LAN interface unit(30), interfacing the channel framer MUX(50) and a LAN, provides a LAN bridge function and an HDLC(High-level Data Link Control) modularizing function. The modem interface unit(40), interfacing a plurality of subscribers and the channel framer MUX(50), consists of a signal modulation part(41), an AD/DA converter(42) and a line driver(43). The signal modulation part(41), using a CAP(Carrierless Amplitude Phase) modulation method, transmits and receives data between the AD/DA converter(42) and the channel framer MUX(50). The AD/DA converter(42) converts a digital signal supplied from the signal modulation part(41) into an analog signal and outputs the converted signal to the line driver(43) or converts an analog signal supplied from the line driver(43) into a digital signal and outputs the converted signal to the signal modulation part(41). The line driver(43) interfaces a plurality of subscribers and the ADSL line card. The channel framer MUX(50), embodied as an FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array), selects the LAN interface unit(30) and the ATM interface unit(20). The processor(60) controls the whole operation of the ADSL line card.
