METHOD FOR MANAGING BUFFER FOR TRAFFIC SERVICE OF NON-REAL TIME IN ATM EXCHANGE

PURPOSE: A method for managing a buffer for a traffic service of non-real time in an ATM(asynchronous transfer mode) exchange is provided to dynamically operate the buffer according to a traffic state of the ATM exchange, and to parallel-manage a common buffer in a unit of individual connecting buffer and in a unit of common buffer. CONSTITUTION: The number of cell stored in a buffer is over a critical value of the buffer by checking a service kind of a traffic cell of non-real time arrived in an ATM exchange. If the number of cell stored in the one individual buffer is not over the critical value of individual connecting buffer, or the number of cell stored in every individual buffer is not over a sum of the critical value of an EPD(early packet discard) and the critical value of a PPD(partial packet discard), the traffic cell of non-real time is agreed. If the number of cell stored in the every individual connecting buffers is over the critical value of the PPD, the PPD is performed and the traffic cell of non-real time is discarded. If the number of cell stored in every individual connecting buffer is not over the critical value of the PPD, the EPD is performed and the traffic cell of non-real time is discarded.
