PURPOSE: A universal CCD controller is provided to drive various kinds of CCD(Charge-Coupled Device) by storing the pixel number for charge transfer and performing a driving operation according to the stored number. CONSTITUTION: A universal CCD controller comprises a connection portion(34), a signal control portion(35), and a sequential drive portion(36). The connection portion(34) receives an outer clock, an address, data, and a trigger signal from the outside and outputs a controlled outer clock and branched address and data. The signal control portion(35) outputs a data storage and transfer control signal and a clock signal for driving and a memory device control signal for writing data. The sequential drive portion(36) stores data about the drive number from the connection portion and outputs waveform bit data and waveform contents.
