In the present invention there is disclosed a process for preparing glycidyl methacrylate sorbents wherein a mixture of glycidyl methacrylate, a bifunctional monomer (functioning as a crosslinking agent), compounds causing formation of pores (porogens), a polymerization catalyst and optionally other monomers is dispersed in water with a small amount of polymeric emulsifying agents, such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and subsequently it is subjected to the action of intense ultrasound to thereby create in the water phase droplets of monomer and porogen with narrow size distribution. The droplets are then stabilized by the addition of other emulsifying agents and brought to polymerization by heating the obtained mixture. The formed sorbent particles have narrow size range, their isolation from a small-viscosity mixture is easy, and their surface layer porosity does not differ from porosity inside the particles. Using the method it is possible to prepare very small particles of micron size units, the preparation of which is otherwise very difficult.
|
