A lightweight construction for a vehicle seat has the seat back support with a main frame (1) made from a light alloy extrusion with an I-cross section. The bottom ends of the main frame are linked by an extruded pivot bar (6). The pivot supports (5) and the headrest support (20) are castings or moldings for a simple construction. The headrest support can be a plastic molding. The I-section extrusion is drilled with fitting points for seat accessories e.g. side air bags, seat belt anchorage points, servo motors etc. Aluminum and magnesium alloys can be used for the extrusions and the castings. |
