PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promote it by enhancing roughly cutting efficiency by automating/ mechanizing rough cutting of a carrot, and coping with a demand for roughly cut edible roots by uniformizing weight of the roughly cut edible roots as much as possible. SOLUTION: This automatic roughly cutting machine of a carrot is provided with a workpiece holding part 1 intermittently rotatable in a 1/5 to 1/2 rotation range by holding a workpiece A such as a carrot in a tapering standing-up state, a cutting part 11 being arranged on one side by sandwiching the holding part, extending/installing a thin blade 12 over the mutual both opening part ends to/in an opening part of a U-shaped frame 14 installed on the front end of a rod 15 for reciprocating in the horizontal direction and obliquely holding the thin blade 12 by having an angle in the workpiece standing-up direction and a protective butting plate 24 arranged in response to the cutting part 11 on the other side of the cutting part 11 by sandwiching the workpiece holding part 1, the workpiece holding part 1 can move in the horizontal direction to be adapted to the size of the workpiece A, and the cutting part 11 can move in the vertical direction and the lateral direction according to progress of cutting.
