PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain carbon fiber that has both of excellent antimicrobial activity and excellent microbicidal activity by soaking carbon fibers in a heat treatment solution mainly comprising pyroligneous acid from wood or bamboo. SOLUTION: The extract of mugwort (Artemisia princeps) is added to the heat treatment solution mainly comprising at least one of pyroligneous acid from wood or bamboo, then carbon fibers, any made from phenols, viscose fibers, aramides, or cellulose are soaked in the heat treatment solution. Then, the soaked carbon fibers are rinsed with distilled water, dried by heating in vacuum or with warm air flow whereby the objective carbon fibers are obtained that have the anitimicrobial properties where it can from an inhibitory ring in the culture medium coated with a solution containing cultured microorganisms of 106 CFU/ml and have the microbicidal activity where the growth of microorganism is inhibited on the medium face beneath the carbon fibers. |
