PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make sortable and recoverable even articles of heavyweight material with site area required for sorting being relatively small. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a conveyor 22 for conveying articles 21 one by one, an article detecting sensor 27 for detecting the articles 21 being fed into the conveyor 23, an article property inspecting sensor 28 for inspecting at least one property of the articles 21, compressed air jetting nozzles 24a-24f arranged so that compressed air is jetted to the articles 21 from the direction about perpendicular to the conveying direction of the conveyor 22, recovery chutes 23a-23g for discharging and sorting the articles by compressed air from the compressed air jetting nozzles 24a-24f, and a controller 33 for selecting the compressed air jetting nozzles 24a-24f based on property information of the articles 21 detected by the article property inspecting sensor 28 and for jetting compressed air from the compressed air jetting nozzles 24a-24f at a prescribed timing based on a position detecting signal by the article position detecting sensor 27 to exercise control so that the articles are sorted and discharged from the recovery chutes according to article properties.
