The multilayer knitted fabric has at least two knitted layers, generally bonded together only by tucks, which are arranged differently in the knitted rows. Preferred Features: The front layer is knitted with a thicker yarn than the rear layer. The stitch density in the rear layer is less than in the front layer. The tucks are laid from the rear to the front, at variable intervals. The tucks of two to seven successive rows and/or wales lie on the same position. The tucks are laid as wefts, in both layers. The layers and/or the tucks are of rubber yarns, with an elasticity /- 50%. The rear layer is knitted together with fusible and/or adhesive yarns. At least the front layer is treated to make it insensitive to dirt. The fabric has a basic single layer structure, where the layers are knitted together between set rows of stitches and/or wales. The fabric can be knitted with a different two or three layer structure.
