PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting display device and a display switch method which is inexpensive, moreover, has no mechanical movement, and resists vibrations, shocks, and breaks. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a front light transmitting plate 322a having a light scattering part of a predetermined pattern in the direction of the surface, a rear light transmitting plate 322b having a light scattering part of a pattern different from that of the front light transmitting plate 322a, a light source 324 for the front light transmitting plate for making the light incident into the front transmitting plate from an end face of the front light transmitting plate 322a, and a light source 325 for the rear light transmitting plate for making the light incident into the rear light transmitting plate from its end face, and the light source 325 for the rear light transmitting plate is changed over to emit or extinguish the light. The pattern on the rear light transmitting plate 322b is composited at the time of emitting the light, while the pattern on the rear light transmitting plate is eliminated at the time of extinguishing the light.
