PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject sustained release oral formulation that can sustain the release of the medicines from the pharmaceutical preparation, smoothen its level in the blood after oral administration and can develop sufficient action and is useful as an antiinflammatory agent, an antirheumatics or the like by admixing quinoline derivative or the like and a gel-forming substance thereto. SOLUTION: This sustained release oral formulation includes (A) a quinoline or quinazoline derivative [preferably ethyl 4-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-6, 7- dimethoxy-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)quinoline-3-carboxylate or a thienopyridine or thienopyrimidine derivative and (B) a gel-forming substance, preferably a water-soluble polymeric compound (preferably hydroxypropylmethyl-cellulose), preferably at a weight ratio A/B of about 1/(0.1-100), where the amount of the component B is more than 10 wt.% based on the total composition. In an preferred embodiment, a disintegrator (preferably a sugar alcohol) is admixed thereto.
