PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of unconformability in the process state between the Controller-Target by the easy process in an IEEE1394 communication system. SOLUTION: By a personal computer which is the Controller, the request of Reserve for holding the remote control is transmitted. In an MD recorder/ player which is the Target, as the holding mode for setting in response to the receipt of this request, the remote control from other Controllers are prohibited, then as to a local key, the key operations other than for the reproduction system, stop and eject are prohibited. By this precedure, e.g. the operational control such as updating the TOC information of the MD recorder/player is allowed only by the personal computer, then the generation of the unconformability in the TOC information between the personal computer and the MD recorder/player by the other Controller or the local key operation is evaded.
