PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device capable of obtaining a high-quality positional error signal without being affected by an erase band and a fringe and precisely positioning a head even when a track pitch is narrowed for high- density recording. SOLUTION: This storage device is provided with a recording medium 11 in which many recording tracks 12 (12-1, 12-2, 12-3) are concentrically provided and servo areas 13 are provided, and with a head for recording/reproducing the data to/from the recording medium 11 to position the head to a target track based on the position error signal obtained from a magnetic burst pattern recorded on the burst part of the servo area 13 through the head. In the storage device, the burst pattern is magnetized so that a prolonged direction of its inversion magnetization transition area 15 becomes the circumferential direction of the track.
