PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycarbonate resin which has a good hue, allows little generation of corrosive gas and is suitable for a wide range of usage such as food usage, optical usage, silicon wafers, electrical/electronic equipment containers, etc., and a preparation process thereof. SOLUTION: In a preparation process of a polycarbonate resin using phosgene as a starting material, phosgene having a carbon tetrachloride content of 100 ppm or smaller and a chlorine molecule content of 1,000 ppb or smaller, is used. Further, a polycarbonate resin prepared using phosgene as a starting material contains 10 ppm or less carbon tetrachloride and 100 ppb or less volatile chlorine.
