<p>The present invention is a surgical tool, and method for surgically treating tissue in a patient. The surgical tool (12) comprises a radio frequency generator (44) having an impedance matching circuit (52) connected thereto. A loading, and tuning coil (30) is connected to a watt/ampere meter (54) which is connected to the impedance matching circuit. The loading and tuning coil is connected to a surgical instrument (12) which has a tip (24) for focusing the radio frequency current at the region of the tissue such that the tissue being contacted is instantaneously vaporized, cut, and/or cauterized. The method of using the surgical instrument comprises touching a surgical tool to tissue, and heating the surgical tool by converting current to the tip to create a high current density so as to instantaneously vaporize the tissue being touched. The surgical tool and method eliminate the need for a solenoid coil, and a grounding component.</p> |
