摘要 The invention relates to a method for the secondary gel and/or surface cross-linking of water-absorbent polymers, according to which the polymers are treated with a surface cross-linking solution and during or after this treatment subjected to secondary cross-linking and drying by temperature elevation. The method is characterized in that as cross-linking agent the solution for secondary surface cross-linking contains, dissolved in an inert solvent, a compound of formula (I) in which R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> independently of each other are hydrogen, C1-C12-alkyl, C1-C12-alkenyl, C6-C12-aryl or C1-C12-alkoxy; R<5> is C1-C16-alkyl, C1-C4-hydroxyalkyl, C6-C12-aryl, C1-C16-alkenyl or a group of the formula -(CH2)n-COOH or -(CH2)n-SO3H in the acid form or in the form of their metal salts, ammonium salts or triethanol ammonium salts or -(CH2-CH2-O-)m-R<6>; R<6> is hydrogen or C1-C16-alkyl; n is a number between 1 and 10; and m is a number between 1 and 20. The invention also relates to the liquid-absorbent polymers obtained in this manner and to their use in hygiene articles, packaging materials and nonwovens.
