Method and apparatus for interconnecting electrical circuits and components

The electrical connector assembly (10) comprises a base with a number of rails and a back plane (20). The back-plane has a cavity (26) formed by a pair of force plates and a support buttress. A first flexible circuit (30) is fixed on the back-plane and is equipped with the first conductive buss (34). An elastomeric member is located on the first flexible circuit. A rigid card (14) containing a second flexible circuit (16) with a second conductive buss is movably mounted between the first and second rail sets. The card penetrates the cavity causing deformation of the elastomeric member which engages the force plates. The first conductive buss and the second conductive buss are electrically connected.
