PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a long silent portion from being formed when performing a dubbing operation. SOLUTION: In the case of dubbing an audio signal recorded on a tape onto a disk, if a silent portion longer than a predetermined time Ta is detected from the audio signal obtained by reproducing the tape, a recording operation for recording on the disk the audio signal recorded in the tape is suspended for a while, and the tape is fast forwarded. In the case when no silent portion exists in the audio signal when the fast forwarding of the tape is stopped and a reproduction operation is performed, the recording operation onto the disk is resumed.
