PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a central processing unit and central processing system which can set combinations of ON/OFF states of the functions of an instruction cache and a prefetch queue. SOLUTION: The system has a preread means 18 which prereads information with high possibility to be read out next, a storage means 12 which stores information read in the past, a storage device 16 which stores information, and a control means 24 which controls the function of the preread means and then useless read out of the storage device 16 is decreased to improve the throughput.
