PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low cost and small optical pickup capable of detecting an absolute turning position and turned amount (an angle of turn) of a deflecting optical element. SOLUTION: This optical pickup is provided with an optical head 6 for focusing a laser beam from a laser light source 2 on a recording medium 4, a deflecting optical element 8 for scanning along the recording medium 4 with the laser beam, a light take-out means 18 capable of taking out a part of the laser beam irradiated on the deflecting optical element 8, and a detecting sensor 10 capable of optically detecting a turning position and a turned amount (an angle of turn) of the deflecting optical element 8 based on the optical characteristic of a part of the laser beam taken out by the light take-out means 18. The light take-out means 18 has a lens 16 provided with an almost prism-shaped transparent projecting part 18 on a light exit plane 16a, and at the time of being made to exit from the light exit plane, a light exit direction D (a light exit angle) of a part of the light incident on this lens 16 can be changed by a projecting part 18. |
