PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color cathode ray tube having a neck part with a diameter of 25.3 mm or less for mounting an electron gun with a main lens aperture expanded in the all directions for three electron beams. SOLUTION: Electron beam generating means 1, 2, 3, a focussing electrode 4, to which focus voltage is impressed, an intermediate electrode 9, to which a voltage of a midrange between the focus voltage and an anode voltage is impressed, and a focus accelerating means consisting of an anode 6, to which anode voltage is impressed, are arranged in this order. The focussing electrode 4 is provided with a single opening 4', which has a diameter parallel to the horizontal plane and larger than a vertical diameter and allows passage of three electron beams, on the intermediate electrode side 9 and a flat electrode 5 having an electron beam passage hole arranged on the inside for allowing passage of the electron beam. The intermediate electrode 9 is provided with single openings 9', 9" which have a diameter parallel to the horizontal plane and larger than a vertical diameter and allow passage of three electron beams, between the focussing electrode 4 side and the anode 6 side and a flat electrode 10 having an electron beam passage hole arranged on the inside for allowing passage of the electron beam.
