PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To peep a visitor through the key hole while preventing entering from the outside. SOLUTION: A locking device 1 for a sliding door is substantially formed by a hooking lock main body 3 disposed in a sliding door side casing 2, and an operation part 4 for operating the hooking lock main body 3. The hooking lock main body 3 is provided with a locking part 6 which has a locking click 7 at the tip and is capable of freely moving forward and backward. An operating knob 12 as a rotary operating part constituting the operation part 4 has its central back connected to a connecting shaft 8 extended from the base of the hooking lock main body 3, whereby, the hooking lock main body 3 can be turned on the base by turning the operating knob 12. The operating knob 12 is connected to the tip of the connecting shaft 8 to be freely oscillated. A locking pin 15 is projected on the back of the operating knob 12, and according to the oscillating operation of the operating knob 12, the locking pin 15 is inserted in and pulled out from a locking recessed part formed in the locking part 6.
