<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of intake devices for transversely installed multicylinder internal combustion engines for vehicles, improve their rigidity and intake characteristic, and prevent drops in engine output resulting from shielding against engine-room hot air. SOLUTION: An intake device 10 for use in transversely installed multicylinder internal combustion engines for vehicles uses an intake manifold 11 set on the vehicle rear side of an engine body 1. The intake manifold 11 includes a plurality of independent intake passages 13 of the same length and an intake collecting chamber 15. The independent intake passages 13 each extend from the engine body 1 in a generally orthogonal direction and curve up before connecting to the intake collecting chamber 15. The intake collecting chamber 15 set along the cylinders is mounted with a throttle body at its upstream end and with a resonance chamber 19. The resonance chamber 19 is integrated with the intake manifold 11 to overhang the intake collecting chamber 15 and at least part of the independent intake passages 13 as well as to open via a connecting path 21 into the intake collecting chamber 15 from above and just downstream of the throttle body.</p> |
