PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polybenzoxazole precursor which can give a heat-resistant resin having excellent electrical properties and thermal properties and a low water absorptivity by using a specified bisaminophenol compound and a specified dicarboxylic acid. SOLUTION: This precursor comprises repeating units represented by formula I, and this is dehydratively cyclized to obtain a polybenzoxazole resin. In formula I, n is an integer of 1-1,000; R1, R2, R3, and R4 are each a fluoroalkyl represented by the formula: CmF2m+1, provided that they may be the same or different from each other; m is an integer of 1-10; Y is an at least divalent organic group; and X is a divalent organic group represented by formula II. In formula II, R5s, which may be the same or different from each other, are each F or a fluoroalkyl; Z is O or a single bond; i is an integer of 1-6; and j is an integer of 0-6. The precursor is obtained by the dehydrochlorination condensation of a bisaminophenol compound of formula III with a dicarboxylic chloride of formula IV.
