PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a cross-linked polymer by industrially and advantageously providing an amino group-containing polymer such as polyethyleneimine with a cross-linked structure using a safe and inexpensive cross-linking agent. SOLUTION: This water-swellable cross-linked polymer is obtained by cross- linking (A) an amino group-containing polymer having >=2 amino groups with (B) a compound having vinyl group capable of carrying out the Michael addition reaction and a carboxylic acid ester group. On the one hand, the cross-linked structure is a bond formed by the Michael addition reaction of the amino group possessed by the polymer (A) with the vinyl group possessed by the compound (B) and, on the other hand, the cross-linked structure is a bond formed by an amidating reaction of the amino group possessed by the polymer (A) with the carboxylic acid ester group possessed by the compound (B).
