PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a color liquid crystal display by bonding a color filter to a microencapsulated liquid crystal film containing a black-dichroic dye mixture. SOLUTION: The monolayer color liquid crystal display is produced using microcapsules containing a liquid crystal, a dichroic dye and isotropic dyes of the three primary colors forming complementary colors in three groups, or using liquid crystal microcapsules containing black dichroic dyes and isotropic dyes of the three primary colors sealed in separated capsules or dispersed in separate binders. Different liquid crystal inks of these three groups are arranged on a substrate in a mosaic, striped or triadic pattern and coating or printing is carried out so as to form the objective multicolor liquid crystal display.
