Indanol compounds of formula 1 where R1, R2, R3 and R4, may be identical or different, each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom, a (C1-C5)alkyl, (C2-C5)alkenyl or (C2-C5)alkynyl radical, those radicals being linear or branched chain, a cycloalkylalkyl radical in which the cycloalkyl moiety contains from 3 to 7 carbon atoms and the alkyl moiety contains from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a trifluoromethyl, CHO, COOH, COO(C1-C5)alkyl, CO(C1-C5)alkyl, CH2OH, OH, (C1-C5)-alkoxy, (C2-C5)alkenoxy, (C2-C5)alkynoxy, benzyloxy, cyano, nitro radical of the formula 1a where R5 and R6 may be identical or different, each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or a (C1-C5)alkyl, -CO(C1-C5)alkyl or -COO(C1-C5)alkyl radical; or R1, R2, R3, and R4 taken in pairs in adjacent positions, form with the carbon atoms of the phenyl nucleus to which they are bonded a 5-7-membered ring, containing one or more double bonds and composed of atoms selected from carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulphur atoms, and other radicals, being not taken in pairs in adjacent positions, each represent a hydrogen atom, X-Y represents formula 1b A forms with the two carbon atoms of the phenyl ring to which it is bonded a 5- to 7- membered heterocycle containing one or more double bonds and comprising one or two hetero atoms, which may be identical or different, selected from oxygen and sulphur atoms Z represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or a hydroxy or (C1-C5)alkoxy radical, and Z' represents a hydrogen atom or an oxo, hydroxy,(C1-C5)alkoxy or CH2OH radical, in the form of the cis or trans isomers, each of those being in racemic or optically active form, and addition salts thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid.
