PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a developing method of a heat developable photographic sensitive material for printing plate making having high sensitivity, ultrahigh contrast, excellent residual colors and good dimensional stability by subjecting a heat developable photographic sensitive material containing photosensitive silver halides, org. silver salts, a reducing agent for silver ion and a binder to a washing process with water after exposure. SOLUTION: After a heat developable photographic sensitive material containing photosensitive silver halides, org. silver salts, a reducing agent for silver ion and a binder is exposed, the photosensitive material is washed with water. The washing process may be carried out in any stage as far as the stage is after the exposure, but preferably carried out before the heat developing process. The temp. of the water for the washing treatment is 10 to 80 deg.C, preferably 20 to 60 deg.C. The washing process is carried out by dipping the photosensitive material to be treated in water for one more sec, more preferably for >=5 sec. The washing process may be carried out by any method, and preferably, a washing tank is used to dip the film. The heating temp. for developing is preferably controlled to equal to or lower than the glass transition temp. of the supporting body.
