PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus so constituted that paper is satisfactorily attracted, without strongly pressing the paper to a transfer belt. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a transfer belt 10 for carrying papers, a pressure roller 17 for pressing the paper carried by the belt 10 to the belt 10, and an attraction charger 18 for imparting charge to the belt 10, before the paper is carried by the belt 10. If the volume resistance of the belt 10 isρ(Ω.cm), dielectric constant thereof isε, carrying speed thereof is V (cm/sec) and the moving distance thereof from the charger 18 to the roller 17 is L, andε0 is 8.854×10-12 (F/m), the relation 3.ρ.ε.ε0>=L/V exists.
