Electromagnetic actuator for gas exchange valve in combustion engine has surface between armature and electromagnet penetrated more than twice by flux

The actuator has a reciprocating armature (1) and at least one electromagnet (2,3) for producing a magnetic force to act on the armature. A surface between the armature and at least one of the electromagnets is penetrated more than twice by a magnetic flux produced by the electromagnet and flowing through the armature. The electromagnet includes a yoke (22,32) with an excitation coil (20,30) and an embedded auxiliary coil (23,33). The use of the actuator for controlling gas exchange in a combustion engine is also claimed.
