PURPOSE: Tiagabine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is provided which is used in the manufacture of a medicament for use in the treatment of psychotic disorders. CONSTITUTION: A method for the treatment of psychotic disorders or manic disorders comprises administering an effective, non-toxic amount of tiagabine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to human or non-human animals suffering from the disorders. The use for treating the disorders is characterized in that tiagabine is in its form of hydrochloride monohydrate.
