PURPOSE: A method for controlling sounds in a multichannel-sound broadcasting on television, having a multichannel-sound function and a KBPS(Korea Broadcasting Program System) decoder, is provided to automatically convert into the sub sound mode when watching a corresponding program, after watching the program of the multichannel-sound broadcasting frequently than a predetermined frequency during a certain period with the sub sound mode. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling sounds in a multichannel-sound broadcasting on television, having a multichannel-sound function and a KBPS(Korea Broadcasting Program System) decoder, comprises the steps of: deciding whether a program is multi-sound broadcasting; storing an ID(Identification) code of a received program in an inner memory, if the ID code is not stored in the memory; reading a counted value of a sub sound of the corresponding program from the inner memory; deciding whether the counted value is over a reference value; automatically converting into the sub sound when the counted value is over the reference value, and waiting for a viewer's control when the counted value is below the reference value; removing the counted value on a fixed date, by reading date information of the memory for eliminating the counted value at regular time intervals units, when the program is the multichannel-sound broadcasting; increasing the counted value of a present program by one after converting into the sub sound mode, if the counted value is below the reference value, and converting into a multichannel-sound mode when the multichannel-sound mode is selected.
