The switch console has individual switches (2) with 2 or more switch conditions, coupled to a control circuit (10) for evaluating the switch conditions, each switch having a coding device (12) providing a characteristic code, detected by the control circuit for selecting a switch function from a number of possible switch functions. An Independent claim for an electric switch for a switch console is also included.
