PURPOSE: A device is provided to collect a multi-mode laser radiation on a recording structure in a pre-selected spot size and a method is provided to image the laser radiation. CONSTITUTION: An output assembly(100) comprises a drum or a plate cylinder(120) which is rotated from an optical fiber cable(110), a printing member(115), a threaded collar(127), an SMA(Shape Memory Alloy) connector assembly(125), a sleeve(130), a tubular housing(135) and a cap(127) which exposes a lens(145) and contains a window(150) having a diameter smaller than the housing's. A single-mode beam has a gauss profile so that an image dot having a well-defined round outline is surely generated. Therefore, the diameter of the dot is defined by one part of the beam of which energy is more than threshold value.
