PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance sewage treatment capacity and to shorten the treatment time by mixing and agitating sewage, bacteria and a flocculant together while vigorously splashing with spiral agitation blades and settling the formed flocs, in the treatment process. SOLUTION: This treatment process comprises: allowing sewage to flow through a sewage inflow port 4 into a rotary drum 1 by about a half of total amount of the sewage; also allowing bacteria and a flocculant to flow into the rotary drum 1 through a bacteria/flocculant inflow port 5; then, slowly rotating the rotary drum 1 for 5-10 min, wherein during this period of time, the sewage, bacteria and flocculant are gradually agitated and mixed together and also moved forward while being upwardly splashed, with spiral agitation blades, to be fed to a settling vessel 7; in the settling vessel 7, slowly passing this sewage through plural parallel passages separated by partition walls 9 from each other, to downwardly settle sludge in the sewage during this period of time; then, supplying the resulting sewage to another settling vessel 8 to similarly settle sludge; and finally, discharging supernatant clean water through a discharge port 14. Thus, the required sewage treatment time of about 120 hr in a conventional sewage treatment process, is reduced to about 1 hr and the sewage is treated with very high efficiency.
