PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base disc type grinding wheel having strength to be durable against high peripheral speed rotation, light and small in elongation and capable of reusing a base disc. SOLUTION: A base disc is made of quenching coagulating aluminium alloy with Si as a main component, it contains Si: 15-40 wt.%, Cu: 0.5-6 wt.% and Mg: 0.2-3 wt.%, a residual part is practically aluminium and unavoidable impurities, an average particulate diameter of an Si particulates in alloy is less than 5μm, porosity in the alloy is less than 1 vol.%, a ratio of tensile strength and specific gravity of the base disc (tensile strength (MPa)/specific gravity (g/cm3)) is more than 90, and a ratio of fatigue strength and the specific gravity of the base disc (fatigue strength (MPa)/specific gravity (g/cm3)) is more than 30. Additionally, at least 3-10 wt.% of one kind of Fe, Mn, Ni is contained in the quenching coagulating aluminium alloy of the base disc.
