PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plotter capable of accurately and rapidly moving paper on a platen in an X-direction at its optimum max. moving speed and its optimum max. moving acceleration. SOLUTION: The moving quantity in an X-direction of paper at a time when a current with predetermined magnitude is allowed to continuously flow to a servo motor 10 for a predetermined time by a current supply means 100 to move the paper on a platen in the X-direction is measured by a measuring means 110. The optimum max. moving speed and optimum max. moving acceleration of the paper are selected from an evaluation table 120, on the basis of the measured value of the moving quantity in the X-direction of the paper by a selection means 130. The servo motor 10 is driven by a drive control means 140 in matching relation to the values of the selected optimum max. moving speed and optimum max. moving acceleration of the paper to move the paper on the platen in the X-direction at the optimum max. moving speed and the optimum max. moving acceleration.
