PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a proper paper feeding and recording by detecting the moving quantity by a sheet guide to detect the width dimension of a recording paper, and moving a sheet alignment guide according to the detected width dimension of the recording paper. SOLUTION: When each sheet guide 8 is moved in the lateral direction of a placing plate 5, a support plate and a rack plate 15 are moved along a rack support shaft 14, and a pinion gear 17 is rotated by a rack gear 16 according to this rotation. Thus, each sheet guide 8 is moved in the same moving quantity, and a recording paper 1 is regularly situated in the lateral center of the placing plate 5. The moving quantity of the support plate or sheet guide 8 is detected by a controller to detect the width dimension of the recording paper 1 placed on the placing plate 5. According to the detected width dimension of the recording paper 1, a pinion drive motor is rotated by the controller to rotate a pinion gear in a prescribed quantity. Consequently, a sheet alignment guide is moved so as to conform to the width dimension of the recording paper 1.
