PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the control method for a movable electrode type electric dust collector by which the moving speed of a dust collecting electrode can be controlled. SOLUTION: At the time of receiving the signal of operation frequency of an inverter 46, a microcomputer 62 calculates the period of a dust collecting electrode plate 34, controls a power control circuit 60 after the period to vary discharge current and records the value of charge voltage measured by a charge voltage detecting device 70 and the value of discharge current measured by a discharge current detecting device 72. The microcomputer 62 judges the charged status based on the recorded charge characteristic and controls the operation frequency of the inverter 46 to optimize the moving speed of the dust collecting electrode. The period of the dust collecting electrode plate 34 is calculated again to optimize the moving speed of the dust collecting electrode plate 34 every period.
