PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve bearing resolution by forming an ultrasonic beam with a received wave phasing means from the reception signal in the measurement depth range specified by a range setting means with a specified measurement depth used as a focus region. SOLUTION: A control circuit section 106 controls an ultrasonic transceiver section 102 based on the measurement start instruction of an operator to generate and feed a transmission signal to a probe 101, and an ultrasonic wave is transmitted into a subject. The ultrasonic wave reflected by the subject is received by the ultrasonic vibrator of the probe 101, converted into the reception signal, and outputted to the ultrasonic transceiver section 102. The operator controls a switch according to the measured depth indicated by an operation input section 107, i.e., the depth range of the ultrasonic image displayed on a display device 105, so that the control circuit section 106 controls the ultrasonic transceiver section 102 to reset the combination of multiple fixed delay elements to the optimum combination to the predetermined depth range.
