PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To pick tea leaves at a suitable position corresponding to the growth state of the tea sprout in a tea ridge by controlling the picking action state of a picking machine moving along the tea ridge by a specific sensor output and performing the picking. SOLUTION: This method for picking tea leaves is provided by judging the growth state of the tea sprout A1 in a tea ridge A, controlling the picking action state of the picking machine 3 moving along the tea ridge A and performing the picking. In this case, as the sensor 4, a color difference meter capable of detecting the difference of the color states of tea sprouts A1 and old leaves A2 in the tea ridge A, can be applied, and further it is preferable to install the sensor applied with the color difference meter at a dark place.
