PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ethylene glycol, enabling the selective production of the ethylene glycol from ethylene oxide. SOLUTION: This method for industrially producing ethylene glycol comprises reacting ethylene oxide with carbon dioxide to produce the ethylene carbonate and subsequently hydrolyzing the ethylene carbonate. Therein, the characteristics comprise bringing ethylene oxide-containing carbon dioxide flowing out from the carbonation reaction zone into contact with an absorbing liquid in an absorption tower 4 to absorb off the ethylene oxide from the gas, allowing a gas having an ethylene oxide gas concentration of <=2 vol.% to flow out from the absorption tower 4, and subsequently compressing and recycling the gas to the reaction zone.
