The loading device comprises a pick-up device (1) with a pick-up arm (2) which engages beneath a downwardly openable pick-up part (3) of a loading container. A control mechanism automatically controls the loading device and is coupled to a locking member (7) which is arranged in the vicinity of the pick-up member (5) and moves into action by the control mechanism in the event certain predefined unsafe states of the loading device occurs. When the locking member is moved into an active position, it prevents the pick-up member from engaging the pick-up part, and when moved into an inactive part the pick-up arm can engage the pick-up part.
