A distributed, high-powered computer architecture is provided for conducting global, online financial and informational transactions. The computer architecture includes four independent layers for ensuring a scalable, flexible system for processing customer transactions. A gateways services layer is configured to provide secure communications with a plurality of customers using a plurality of different access devices. An application services layer is connected to the gateways services layer and is configured to accept customer transaction requests and to present a formatted response to the customer via the gateways services layer. A business transactions layer is connected to the application services layer and is configured to receive customer transaction requests, execute the requests according to predetermined business logic rules, and return results of the transaction to the application services layer for presentation to the customer. A resource layer is connected to the business transactions layer and is configured to supply customer information and securities market access to the business transactions layer.
