A process for etching an intaglio printing- cylinder comprises covering the cylinder with a mask to protect the cylinder where no etching is to take place, transferring to the cylinder a tanned gelatine relief, and etching with ferric chloride through the relief, the depth of etching depending on the intensity of light to which the gelatine has been exposed in various areas. Where a plurality of reliefs for pages of the same size are to be applied, the mask is in the form of a uniform grid transferred by means of a template. The mask covers the areas of the cut edges of the films, and may be a resistant varnish or adhesive tape.</p> |
