The system comprises a binder, a mixture of solids in powder form which comprises a refractory material, a foaming agent and a pore regulating agent. The procedure for manufacturing shaped refractory materials involves moulding a foam which, when it sets, has refractory, insulating and/or exothermic properties, obtained from said foam-producing system. The shaped refractory material, having insulating and/or exothermic properties, can be a sleeve, a water bowl, a drain or a lining of scoops and furnaces of the type used in the moulding of metals by casting. For application in the manufacture of moulds for making metal pieces by moulding of cast metals.
