PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an optical disk to be properly reproduced even if ruggedness exists larger than a pit on the data pit surface of the optical disk. SOLUTION: During the reproduction of a rugged part larger than a pit, a prescribed value F or the minimum added value G is added to the tracking offset adjustment value before the completion of the adjustment, with the pickup moved in the direction suppressing the return phenomenon. During the reproduction of the rugged part larger than the pit, when the tracking offset adjustment is complete, the minimum subtraction value 1 is subtracted from a tracking gain adjustment value, with the sensitivity of a tracking error signal reduced so that no return phenomenon is generated.
