PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to maintain uniformity of the thickness of a liquid crystal layer and to secure durability of a film of a liquid crystal display device by providing gap filters each having narrow width at the places corresponding to the spaces between electrodes of a substrate and allowing the width in the vicinity of the end of each gap filter to be wider than the width of the space part between the electrodes. SOLUTION: A filter substrate 3 has color filters 35 which are provided at the inner surface of a transparent base stand 30 and are covered by a protective layer 33, transparent striped electrodes 31 each of which crosses orthogonally with electrodes 21 of substrate 2 and an orientation film 32. Furthermore, gap filters 36 each having narrow width are provided at the places corresponding to the spaces between the electrodes of the substrate in the striped state or in the lattice state when the color filters 35 are provided at pixel parts in an island-in-sea form. The gap filters 36 are provided on a black matrix when the so-called black matrix is installed. The width in the vicinity of the end of each gap filter 36 of the filter pattern is set so as to be wider than the width of the space part between of the striped electrode 31.
